Engine Reliability
The N57 replaced the M57 and continued BMW's tradition of excellent diesel inline-6 engines. Available in single, bi-turbo, and tri-turbo configurations. Generally more reliable than its predecessor with better emissions equipment, though boost pipe cracks and oil leaks are common concerns.

Widely considered one of the best automatic transmissions ever made. Lightning-fast shifts, excellent efficiency, and remarkable reliability. Used across BMW's entire range from 1 Series to 7 Series. Even better with regular fluid services. The 8HP70/75 handles V8 and V12 torque.

The ZF 6-speed is an excellent torque-converter automatic used across BMW, Audi, Jaguar, and others. Smooth, responsive, and very reliable when serviced properly. The 6HP26 handles up to 600Nm. Mechatronic (valve body) issues can occur at high mileage if fluid has never been changed.
